Located in Hokessin, DE, the Ashland Nature Preserve offers a great oppurtunity for our scouts to do some indoor camping but still interact with nature. This year we did their astronomy program and nature program. On the first night, we did a nighttime hike with no flashlights. When we entered the open meadow, we got an unparalled view of the nighttime sky in early spring. We saw a setting Jupiter, Orion, the North Star (Polarius), as many others. We then hiked to the fire pit and had s'mores.
The camping was great cause it was indoors. It was chilly outside and its great to have heat when you camp. lol. We woke up, had breakfast and went out for 2 morning hikes as well as show about animals. We looked at foxes, racoons live snakes and turtles, as well as birds. The scouts had a great time and really want to come back. Its on our short list for return in the near future.
